Gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex and questioning (GLBTIQ) people: ‘How2 education series’
CERSH continues to promote and support active and explicit engagement with the dynamics of difference, diversity and culture in rural environments.
In 2011, CERSH has continued to work in partnerships with Gay and Lesbian Health Victoria (GLHV) to assist rural health and community services to develop GLBTI inclusive practices. Seven regional health and community services have participated in a series of four workshops facilitated by GLHV and CERSH and have been supported to audit the extend to which their service is GLBTI inclusive; consult consumers or determine how this might best occur; educate colleagues; develop and begin to implement their plan of action; identify and managing obstacles; and begin to evaluate changes. CERSH has also provided practical assistance between workshops upon agency requests.
The forthcoming publication of reports from five participating organisations 'How2 create a GLBTI inclusive rural service' will profile the successes and challenges, barriers and enablers for rural services in the development of inclusive practice for GLBTI clients in rural Victoria. In addition, a document for rural services to accompany the Rainbow Tick good practice guide for GLBTI inclusive services 'Rainbow Tick - Rural Considerations' has been developed as a result of this partnership.
The participating agencies are: Gateway Community Health, Ovens and King Community Health, Mitchell Community Health, Primary Care Connect, Villa Maria, Uniting Care Cutting Edge, Moira Shire.
