Understanding Unplanned Pregnancy and Abortion Pathways and Supporting Rural Women in the Bendigo Region

Who should register?
Workers who have day-to-day contact with women in the Bendigo region who may experience unplanned pregnancy, including workers in the health, education, community and youth sectors.

What will be covered?
The training will provide an overview of unplanned pregnancy options, supporting women’s decision-making, abortion services and clinical practice, discussion about pathways, medico-legal issues, reproductive coercion, post abortion contraception and troubleshooting of complex cases. The local service system will also be outlined and discussed. Facilitators include Dr Paddy Moore from The Women’s, Bendigo Community Health Services, Bendigo Health, and Dr Kym Preiss, Clinical Psychologist.

Training objectives:

  • To provide an overview of unplanned pregnancy, abortion options, clinical practice, supporting women’s decision-making and medico-legal issues
  • To discuss the Bendigo region service system and future opportunities
  • To provide an overview of the progress towards decentralisation of abortion services throughout Victoria, successes and challenges
