Building Ethical Relationships Together (BERT) Wodonga Community of Practice

When: June workshop: Thursday 9th of June, 10am – 1pm

Where: Wodonga.

What: Our multidisciplinary Community of Practice (CoP) for Wodonga based workers is facilitated by Dr Moira Carmody utilising principles drawn from the Sex & Ethics Framework (Carmody 2007). The aim of the CoP workshops is to build collective workforce competency to support young people to negotiate and experience ethical relationships. Workshop theme: “Building skills to reflect on our practice”

Central Victorian Sexual Health Network meeting  – Overview of HIV and Hepatitis C prevention, transmission and treatments

When: Wednesday 15th June, 11am -3.30pm

Where: La Trobe Clinical, Bendigo.

What: An overview of HIV and Hepatitis C prevention, transmission and updates on new treatments will be presented by The Victorian AIDS Council, Hepatitis Victoria, Living Positive Victoria and Positive Women. Topics will include transmission risks, new treatments, and effective strategies for working with affected communities. The meeting also provides an opportunity to link in with relevant state-wide services, discuss referral pathways. There will also be presentations from Bendigo Community Health and Victorian AIDS Council outlining the newly established STI/BBV Program for Loddon Mallee.

Goulburn Valley and North East Victoria Network Meeting  – The Local Picture: Overview of HIV and Hepatitis C and local health care pathways

When: Wednesday 24th August 10.30am-3.30pm

Where: Department of Education and Training, 150 Bridge Street, East Benalla.

What: The meeting will be facilitated by local health practitioners and representatives from state-wide services. It will incorporate scenario based presentations, information about new treatment options and the local service systems.

FORTHCOMING training and events

Hepatitis C: A new dawn in treatment – Bendigo

When: June 8, 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm

Where: Murray PHN, 37 Rowan Street, Bendigo.

What: This session will discuss the implications for new interferon-free treatments. All health professionals working with people who live with hepatitis C are encouraged to attend. The discussion panel includes: Dr Saira Baloch, GP at Bendigo and District Aboriginal Co-operative; Lee Kennedy, Nurse practitioner from Youth Support and Advocacy Service (YSAS) Bendigo; Dr Les Fisher, General Physician and Gastroenterologist; Judy Lamb and Louise Holland, Clinical Nurse Consultants at Bendigo Health Infectious Diseases Service; Dr Andy Cope, GP at Creek Street Medical Practice. This event is a partnership between Murray PHN and St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.

PrEP Community forum – Albury

When: Tuesday 14th June, 6.00pm

Where: Paddy’s Hotel (upstairs), Dean St Albury

What: The aim is to discuss the impact of PrEP on HIV prevention and how it can be accessed through the EPIC NSW Study. RSVP online here.

ARCSHS Course in Pre and Post Test Discussion – Melbourne

When: July course: 11th 12th, 18th & 19th

Where: ARCSHS, Melbourne

What: A 4 day accreditation program is designed to equip participants with appropriate knowledge and skills to engage in pre- and post- HIV and hepatitis C antibody test discussion, and prevention education, in a range of settings. Cost is $790.

International Hepatitis Awareness Day 28th July 2016

Hepatitis Victoria is offering grants of up to $1000 to Victorian based community organisations for World Hepatitis Day 2016 associated activities. Your event or activity can be held on 26 July or any time through to mid-August. A World Hepatitis Day LIVERability event can be as simple as a “Love your Liver Lunch” or as creative as you like. Hepatitis Victoria can provide education sessions for staff or participants involved in the event, resources and support. Contact Martin Forrest on 03 9385 911 or martin@hepvic.org.au. Keeping up with the changing landscape in Respectful Relationships Education (RRE) in schools in Victoria

Respectful Relationship Education (RRE) curriculum will be mandated in every Victorian public school from prep to year 10 and there will be support for teachers to deliver this curriculum. This roll out of RRE curriculum, to be delivered by teachers, will be supported by additional resources. Join the PiP network to stay informed.
